How much does custom software cost in Australia?
It depends on scope, and any supplier quoting a figure before scoping is guessing. What moves the number is how many distinct workflows the system covers, how much data has to migrate, and how many external systems it integrates with. We scope and price in writing before any work starts, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay.
How long does a custom build take?
Most projects start with the single workflow costing the most time, so something usable is in your hands within weeks rather than at the end. Full systems typically run over several months, delivered in working increments you can open and use rather than a long silence ending in a reveal.
Should we build custom software or buy an off-the-shelf product?
Buy, if your process is close to a standard one — established products are deeper and cheaper than anything built from scratch. Custom earns its place when the way you quote, schedule or cost work is genuinely particular, and the off-the-shelf option would mean either changing how you operate or maintaining spreadsheets beside it to cover the gap.
